ISRAEL’S 60th BIRTHDAY

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL OBSERVANCE and
ISRAEL’S 60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
May 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM
Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32174
GUEST SPEAKER: Doris Fogel of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, whose family escaped
Nazi Europe for Shanghai, China

Once a year, on the Day of Remembrance, we gather as a community to mourn for those who perished in the Holocaust. For those whose families were destroyed, we stand as their survivors to say the Kaddish prayer and to hallow their blessed memory so that they will not go unmourned. We also want to honor the Righteous Gentiles who embodied the noblest of mankind. They possessed the willingness to forfeit their own lives so that others could elude destruction. They were few in number, but they were truly their brothers’ keepers.

We lose more Holocaust survivors every year. In the future, there won’t be any living survivors to tell their story. Therefore, we urge you to attend this event in their honor and in their memory.

BUT . . .

Sadness turns into joy as we also celebrate the 60th birthday of the State of Israel. Since 1948, Israel has had to fight for her life against the many enemies who surround her. She has not only prevailed against her enemies, but she has astounded the world. Israel has accomplished much of which to be proud in only 60 years. On this day, we honor and salute the great State of Israel as an outstanding member of the pantheon of nations.
